Purdue Veterinary Technology Program

Purdue University’s School of Veterinary Medicine offers a veterinary technician training program.

Degrees Offered

  • Associate of Science (2 year) degree program
  • Bachelor of Science (4 year) degree program
  • 2 year AA distance learning program

Accreditation
All programs are fully accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association

Purdue boasts that 99%+ of the matriculates of the programs pass the Veterinary Technician National Examination (VTNE). 75% of matriculates are employed by vets while 25% find work in: veterinary schools, biomedical research, teaching, diagnostic laboratories, zoos, veterinary supply sales, farms, humane societies, animal control, and food inspection.

What is most interesting about Purdue is their distance learning program which allows prospective veterinary technicians to study at their own pace. According to the site, students who take a 9 hour / day workload can earn their degree in 2 years. However, because most students who enroll in distance learning have day jobs, it can take up to 5 years to complete the program.

This program is something I’d be interested in because I love animals and caring for them. I have a dog and a cat of my own; I believe that having two pets of my own really teaches me responsibility. I take care of them myself and I am only 14 years old. I will consider this school, when I have to make my decision. :D
